I thought about dramtically lighting the L room using underlighting. I also removed one of the ceiling walls to allow light in from above.
I also tried using a rect light to light up the starred ceiling, but went for a dim point light in the end for an overall darkened environment.
I played around with a spot light to exaggerate the god rays, but it ended up appearing unnatural and the light source was also too visible from the ground.
I added in a ceiling dressing to divide the two ceiling pieces for a cleaner look.
Arranging burners around the L room.
Trying out a rect light in the main room. I found that it was too bright and the natural lighting from the directional light looked better.
Experimenting with the intensity and hue of point lights in the L room.
In order for the ceiling light to hit the back of the room, I had to delete one of the dividers.
I also experimented with coloured distant lighting in the corridor. I thought a sublty coloured light was effective and altered the mood of an area.
