3D Reflection 7

In class we went over how to make modular assets, including the use of a weighted normals script to enhance the appearance of our models. I began in 3Ds Max, making a simple modular wall kit comprised of a corner block, a skirting block and a wall. I used the chamfer modifier and the weighted normals script to give a clean appearance to the shape of the wall and to avoid any shader issues in areas of tension.

When making the assets I used the snap tool to ensure that the modular kit would snap together in Unreal engine. I also ensured that the pivot point was centred to the bottom right corner of the asset, before exporting them individually.

Once they were in Unreal I played around with snapping them together, and I was pleased to see that they successfully fit together. This will be a crucial part of the group project when making the dungeon crawler walls.
