I changed a few of my pictures in the moodboard to make them more suitable to my ideas.
I also improved the presentation of the thumbnails page and made my chosen option clear.
I also updated the next development page, putting in another icon to make my selection clear. I wanted to use something more interesting than just a plain bright outline, as this would be harder to develop and put an identity to. I decided to use the option that highlights the heart and mind, as well as hands and feet to indicate not only moovement for the player, but also a source of life and thought that the individual has. This would also be developed.
My tutors gave me interesting ideas to symbolise enemies and allies when survival mode is switched on. Using symbols of Apep to represent the enemies was an effective idea as it fit in with the mythology that the messenger character would believe in, and symbolised invaders and evil. The ally was given the watchful eye of osiris and the crook and flail, as this is associated with the pharaoh and the kingdom. The messenger would associate these symbols with allies.
To push my ideas further, I explored surrounding visuals. I used hieroglyphs assiciated with Osiris, that appeared around the head and hands and feet of the ally. This gave the ally an otherwordly quality and added to the visual interest.
I did similar exploration, but looked for something with more chaos. I also used symbolism for a serpent's eye, which enhanced the influence of Apep over the enemy, and created a more chaotic arrangement using different levels of size and position jitter.
I carried out the same process for the mechanic highlight, using my developed mechanic as an example of something that can be interacted with. I applied hieroglyphs to this as the mechanics are part of the Egyptian temple, and therefore would be something familiar that the messenger would recognise.
I put the final visual effec components next to each other. I liked the final effects, as they were different enough from each other but each had an element that linked them in similarity. If I had more time, I would have liked to do a mood drawing of the messenger using the survival mode.
