3D - blog topic 3 Pt. 1

I continued practising Substance Designer, and as one of my assignments I needed to produce a texture based on an object from home. I decided to make a snakeskin texture. Immediately as I started working on this I realised how difficult it was as I needed to make individual specific shapes using multiple tile generators.

I used reference of snakeskin to identify the shapes and textures at first. I used three different sizes of scales, which I initially tried to pile into one tile generator. However, I soon learned that I would need to use the blend node often, as well as the transform 2D tools to move my shapes around, as when I didn't do this the shapes all overlapped incorrectly according to my reference. I found the process of organising my nodes and masking out the scale shape the most challenging part, but once I developed a workflow I was able to quite quickly make the rest of scales. The texture is not finished but it successfully tiles. I will colour it and add gradients to it, as well as noise and grunge to enhance the texture.

End of progress for day 1
